   Asheville

Nestled in the Blue Ridge Mountains, Asheville has its own very special character. It is constantly named as one of the best places to live and retire in – for a good reason.

With so much to do in a relatively small area, Asheville is seen by many as the epicenter of creativity and activity in the Western North Carolina region. Whatever your cultural diversions or interests are, you will find that Asheville most likely has it close by. From an eclectic downtown of bookstores, theaters, and museums to mountain biking, skiing or white water rafting…from Looking Glass Rock on the Blue Ridge Parkway to Mount Mitchell… from window shopping to fine dining restaurants…Asheville is the place to be!

Asheville is the largest city in Western North Carolina with a population of about 70,000 and once visited, you won’t forget the charm and magic this place reflects. Also known as the “Paris of the South”, Asheville attracts those who are seeking the intimacy and enchantment of a small city as well as people searching for cultural, educational, business or entertainment possibilities.

One of the most well known attractions is Biltmore, America’s largest home. George Vanderbilt’s 250-room home with its 8000-acre backyard including ever-changing gardens is truly a must see. Other attractions include the Pack Place, the vibrant centerpiece of downtown Asheville where science, arts, culture and entertainment meet under one roof, the North Carolina Arboretum,  with miles of nature trails and cultivated gardens. The Grove Park Inn is another  place worth to visit.

Asheville offers many noteworthy events such as the Mountain Dance and Folk Festival, the Fairs of the Southern Highland Craft Guild and Bele Chere, Asheville’s annual festive summer street fair.

Downtown is an eclectic mix of specialty shops, apparel stores, arts and crafts galleries, bookstores and restaurants.

Historic Biltmore Village in South Asheville offers arts, crafts, gifts, antiques and other shops and restaurants.
